EQUINOX: THE MAYAN ASTRONOMERS
Chichen Itza was recently named one of the "New Seven Wonders of the
World." Twice each year at Equinox, tens of thousands gather to see the
appearance of The Serpent of Light and Shadow. This is a projection of light
which appears at sunset on the side of the Pyramid of Kukulkan. "Equinox"
features magnificent vioeography of Mexico's showcase arqueological zone of
Chichen Itza, as well as four other Mayan centers: Tikal, Tulum, Palenque
and Tikal.
"Equinox" gives significant attention to the spiritual beliefs
of the Maya as well as their architectural wonders. Their buildings have been
designed in perfect alignment with the rising and setting of the sun and moon
as well as some stars and planets, which the Maya considered their gods. "Equinox"
lifts more of the veil of Mayan mystery with previously unphotographed astronomical
alighments.
